Locally, through our Waynesville Rotary Foundation, we provide multiple academic scholarships to Haywood County students at Haywood Community College and schools in the UNC system. Scholarship recipients are nominated by school personnel, and then a committee of Rotarians makes the final selections. Scholarships may be renewed throughout the recipient's academic years if performance measures are met. Additionally, the Waynesville Rotary Foundation supports initiatives like the Manna Backpack Support program, which helps feed local children in need. Globally, shown in the image above, are students in Ecuador supported by Waynesville Rotary Club through the READ program (Rural Education Advancement and Development). Each Friday during the school year, Waynesville Rotarians meet the Manna Food Bank truck from Asheville to provide vital Manna Backpack Support by delivering over 500 backpacks of meals to food-challenged children within the Haywood County School system. Without this essential service, these children would likely not have food for the weekend. This initiative is part of the broader efforts by NCServes Western to support local communities, and it is proudly backed by the Waynesville Rotary Foundation.

Waynesville Rotary Club and the READ Project have been pleased to support Ecuadoran Alex Vega as he pursues his secondary education in automotive mechanics. Vega will graduate this spring with his certificate.
NCServes Western is the first coordinated network in Western North Carolina, uniting public, private, and non-profit organizations to support Veterans, Service members, and their families. As one of 16 AmericaServes National networks and one of four in North Carolina (including Asheville, Charlotte, Raleigh, and Jacksonville), NCServes Western is dedicated to addressing the needs of the community. The network comprises 85 community providers that tackle 21 Human Service Needs, including Housing, Employment, Legal, Mental Health, Social Enrichment, Financial Assistance, and Family Assistance. The Waynesville Rotary Foundation stands out as the first Rotary Club in the entire network to become a provider, actively participating in initiatives such as the Manna Backpack Support program, which sends referrals and delivers benefits like Christmas baskets. An example of the impact is shown in the image of Senior Care Coordinator Jessica presenting a donated bike to a Veteran in Asheville who needed transportation.
